Shaw Enterprises, LLC received an $81,000 Kansas state grant to interrupt the pattern in youth, before substances, fractured relationships, and workforce burnout become the outcome.
Wyandotte | Geary | Harvey | Reno Counties
Shaw Enterprises was awarded an $81,000 Kansas state Community Organization Grant to deliver the TRIGGERZ® nervous system regulation program to teens in Wyandotte, Geary, Harvey, and Reno counties.
The challenge: The grant operates on a reimbursement basis. Care must be delivered before funding arrives, and it covers only part of what's needed to reach teens at scale.
The solution: Foundation contributions and corporate sponsorships bridge the gap. Philanthropic donations are processed through our 501(c)(3) partner organization, Muller Recovery, providing tax benefits for charitable giving.
Your support enables immediate delivery and extended reach.
48.5% of children have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience: abuse, neglect, witnessing violence, or household substance use.
Violent crime: 6.2 per 1,000 vs. state average of 3.6. (Unified Government Public Health)
The continuum: Kids growing up in chronic threat learn emotions = danger. By young adulthood, numbing becomes survival.
Suicide-related Emergency Room visits among school-aged children: 29.95 per 1,000 (nearly 3%) in some zip codes. Overdoses involving methamphetamine, alcohol, and opioids are climbing. (Reno County Overdose Surveillance)
The continuum: Teens in crisis today become adults in treatment tomorrow, if they survive.
Families depend on Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center because child abuse remains a persistent threat. 40% of Kansas children have at least one Adverse Childhood Experience. (Kansas ACEs Data)
The continuum: Childhood trauma becomes dysregulation in adulthood, impacting relationships, parenting, and workplace performance.
1.9 licensed child care centers per 1,000 children vs. 7.0 statewide. Families are under extreme strain. Juvenile system pushes youth into facilities described as jail-like, not therapeutic. (Kansas Health Matters; KCUR)
The continuum: Instability now predicts later justice involvement, addiction, and economic struggle.
According to Kansas Communities That Care, students reporting depression show significantly higher 30-day alcohol use. When emotions = threat, numbing makes sense.
20.3% of Kansas teens have had a major depressive episode; 66.7% get no help. (State of Mental Health in America)
By workforce entry: 1/3 of the workforce reports mental health affecting productivity (WHO). 82% at risk of burnout (Mercer).
Phone at 14. Substances at 22. Burnout at 32.

TRIGGERZ® develops neural pathways signaling: emotions = information and safety, not threat. When that shifts, numbing becomes unnecessary. Teens regulate instead of escape. Process instead of avoiding. Stay present instead of fracturing relationships.
Volume I: 6 sessions + 21-day challenge
Teens learn to notice triggers, regulate stress, and feel emotions without numbing. Built on 30+ years of neuroscience (polyvagal theory, HeartMath, Daniel Goelman, WHO guidance).
Explicitly designed to prevent alcohol, marijuana, and opioid addiction behavior patterns at the root cause.

SCHOOLS & YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS
Chronic absenteeism in Kansas reached 25%, costing districts $75K–$150K annually per percentage-point increase. (Kansas State Dept of Education; Alvarez & Marsal)
Host a youth cohort. We provide the facilitation, materials, app, measurement, and reporting. You provide space.
No cost to families.

FAMILIES
Your teen won't talk. They're anxious, withdrawn, maybe experimenting. You're terrified of what comes next.
Enroll them.
No cost—fully covered by grant + sponsorships. Space limited to 40 per cohort.

TEENS (12–18)
Not spiraling every time something goes wrong. Saying what you think without blowing up or swallowing it. Handling your stuff without scrolling for three hours. That's what this does.
40 spots. No lectures. Just tools that work.

Double your impact through grant matching.
For every teen cohort your foundation sponsors, Shaw Enterprises matches it with another cohort using Kansas Grant funds, doubling the number of teens reached (up to $81,000 in total grant funding).
Investment tiers:
Per cohort (40 teens): $15,000
Your sponsorship = 40 teens funded + 40 teens matched = 80 teens total
Per county (160 teens): $60,000
Your sponsorship = 160 teens funded + 160 teens matched = 320 teens total
Four counties (640 teens): $240,000
Your sponsorship = 640 teens funded + 640 teens matched through grant = 1,280 teens total
Philanthropic contributions are tax-deductible through Muller Recovery 501(c)(3).
Your investment prevents addiction before it starts. Each student who doesn't graduate costs society ~$478K over a lifetime.
Each burned-out employee costs employers $4K–$21K annually. (National cost-benefit analyses; CUNY/Johns Hopkins)
Prevention at 14 costs thousands. Intervention at 32 costs millions.

Every dollar bridges the gap between state funding and immediate care.
The Kansas Grant operates on a reimbursement model: teens need care now, but funding arrives later. Philanthropic donations from individuals, families, and community organizations ensure we can deliver immediately while we await reimbursement from the grant.
Your donation enables:
Immediate program delivery (no waiting for reimbursement cycles)
Extended reach beyond the initial grant coverage
Scholarships for cohorts in communities with the highest need
Materials, facilitator training, and 21-day challenge app access for teens who would otherwise wait
All charitable contributions are tax-deductible through Muller Recovery 501(c)(3).
Whether you give $50 or $50,000, your donation interrupts the pattern before it calcifies.
You are funding prevention when it matters most: interrupting the teen engrossed in their phone, preventing addiction, and workforce crisis as an adult.

Solve your workforce challenges AND sponsor the next generation.
When your organization brings TRIGGERZ® to your managers and employees through our corporate wellness initiative, you're addressing burnout, retention, and productivity issues at the root cause—nervous system dysregulation.
Here's how the 1:1 match works:
For every cohort (40 employees) your company enrolls in TRIGGERZ® workplace programming, Shaw Enterprises sponsors one cohort (40 teens) in Wyandotte, Geary, Harvey, or Reno counties under the Kansas Grant, up to 6 cohorts.
Your investment delivers:
Volume I TRIGGERZ® programming for 40 of your managers and/or employees (6 sessions + 21-day challenge)
Measurable impact: reduced burnout, improved retention, stronger psychological safety, better conflict resolution
Direct sponsorship of 40 Kansas teens, interrupting the addiction and burnout cycle before it reaches your future workforce
You're addressing the pattern at both ends: rewiring your current workforce while preventing the next generation from entering the workplace already dysregulated.
Corporate wellness investment: $15,000 per cohort (40 employees) + 40 teens sponsored

When Kansas needed someone to deliver a substance abuse prevention initiative, such as a nervous-system-regulation programming for at-risk teens, they chose Shaw Enterprises.
Founder Britney Valas built TRIGGERZ® from lived experience: opening a franchise restaurant six weeks before COVID and scaling it to top 1-5 national performance in five measured categories consistently for 18 months by applying nervous system science and emotional intelligence initiatives with her team.
Kansas funded us because the approach translates across environments. The same nervous system patterns that affect workplace performance: difficulty regulating under pressure, conflict that takes multiple conversations, stress that compounds rather than resolves - also show up in teens and schools. The student who can't regulate becomes chronically absent. The teen who learned emotions equal threat turns to substances. The school loses funding when students aren't in seats, and kids progress into adult addiction and fractured relationships, costing employers millions from dysregulated nervous systems.
TRIGGERZ® addresses the root cause of the pattern. Whether it's a manager learning to hold their team steady under pressure or a teen learning that emotions are safe to feel, the science is the same. Kansas invested $81,000 because nervous system regulation works in workplaces, in schools, and to prevent addiction in the teens who will become your future workforce.
